On April 21, 2015, ELSI had the honor of hosting Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. This was a part of the Princess and her delegation's visit to Tokyo Tech. ELSI Director Kei Hirose presented an overview of our interdisciplinary research and our role as a WPI institute.

Hirose also invited HRH Princess Sirindhorn to participate in a diamond anvil cell experiment in which high pressure was applied to room-temperature water to produce ice.

HRH Princess Sirindhorn showed her deep knowledge and interest in science and asked many questions concerning research approaches to elucidating the origins of the Earth and of life, of planet formation, and of the possibility of life outside of our solar system.
