Abstract:
Public Engagement is an important approach of scientific communities to reduce the distance that sometimes exists between themselves and the public. Increased access to information about science and innovation can empower citizens to further participate in activities and debate, which is important for social and political development. Therefore, it is important to understand public engagement activities by scientists and the ways in which science communities communicate. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the field of science communication and its role within the research ecosystem. We will discuss the nature of science communication, motivations, barriers and approaches.
