Abstract:
Leonardo da Vinci developed a particular attraction for mathematics by dedicating himself to solving problems of geometry and arithmetic with great commitment. In this research he had an exceptional master the friar and mathematician Luca Pacioli to whom the birth of modern financial mathematics is due. Leonardo da Vinci designed geometric figures for his friend for the book Divina Proportione, a work of great importance in the history of mathematics. There is a portrait of Luca Pacioli in a picture of uncertain attribution that although not explicitly depicting Leonardo da Vinci makes us guess his presence. It is a fascinating world made of citations and puzzles yet to be solved. Through this painting it would be possible to take a small trip to discover an ancient friendship and a founding moment of modern mathematics.
