A team of researchers at Ehime University Geodynamics Research Center (GRC) led by Dr. Tomohiro Ohuchi, Xinglin Lei, Hiroaki Ohfuji, Yuji Higo, Yoshinori Tange, Takeshi Sakai, Kiyoshi Fujino & Tetsuo Irifune succeeded in discovering that intermediate-depth earthquakes are linked to localized heating in dunite and harzburgite.

This research was published on an online version of Nature Geoscience dated August 28th.
